Kimberly Mena

Kimberly Mena (née Jones) is the founder of Kimberly’s Piano Room and has been teaching for 10 years. In 2013 she passed her Grade 8 Trinity exam with distinction, and in 2014 she passed her ATCL Piano Teaching Diploma. In 2020 she also passed her ATCL Piano Performance Diploma with distinction.

Kimberly’s teaching style is upbeat and encouraging, focusing on giving critique in an understanding way and being a friend and mentor as well as a piano teacher. She encourages students to laugh at themselves and not to be afraid of making mistakes. Her students are encouraged to explore their own creativity, build a love for music, and develop skills they can use throughout their lives regardless of where their music takes them. She encourages her students to perform on a regular basis, both to develop their own confidence and to bring joy to the community. Kimberly also has a comprehensive knowledge of piano technique which she teaches in creative ways. She battled with piano-related injuries while she was learning and is determined to help her students play in a way that is comfortable and tension-free.

Kimberly’s teaching schedule is usually pretty full, and she will be going on maternity leave for much of 2024, so she highly recommends that any interested students sign up with Sophie and will vouch for the fact that students learning with her will have lessons that yield the same fantastic results.

Sophie Jones

Sophie is 16 years old, and is already getting started in her piano teaching career, having taught for two years so far. She has been learning piano for 10 years, she passed her Grade 8 Trinity piano exam with Distinction in 2023, and is now working towards her ATCL Piano Teaching Diploma.

Sophie is loved by all children who meet her, and her teaching style is fun and enthusiastic. She is driven, responsible, and committed to continual professional development. Her students will learn how to practice successfully, the foundations of piano technique, composition and improvisation, performance skills, and music theory basics. Sophie’s lessons include theory games and modern teaching materials. Her lessons are best suited for beginner, primary school-aged students.

Students who are taught by Sophie will reap the benefit of having two teachers invested in their learning instead of just one, as Sophie is being actively mentored by Kimberly. Every week she is reporting back to Kimberly on the week’s lessons, and they brainstorm any challenges that arise. Instead of starting her piano teaching from scratch, she is able to actively draw from Kimberly’s 10 years of experience as she builds her own unique teaching style.
