Kimberly Mena

Founder and Senior Teacher

Kimberly Mena (née Jones) has been teaching piano for 12 years, and playing for over 20. She passed her Grade 8 Trinity Piano Exam with distinction in 2013, her ATCL Piano Teaching Diploma in 2014, and her ATCL Piano Performance Diploma with distinction in 2020.

Kimberly studied under Linda Lloyd, and spent much of her piano learning years focusing on performance in the Blenheim community. She appeared regularly at TEMPO concerts for nearly a decade, competed in the Marlborough Performing Arts Competitions, and took part in the NZCT Chamber Music Contests while college-aged. She has also been part of multiple Blenheim Musical Theatre productions and countless concerts as a soloist, chamber musician, and accompanist. Through these experiences, she developed a passion for the role of performance, not only as a way to build confidence in students, but also as a gift that brings joy to the wider community.

Kimberly’s teaching style is upbeat and encouraging. She offers critique in a gentle, understanding way, balancing professionalism with genuine care. Her students know her not only as a teacher, but also as a mentor and cheerleader – someone who helps them laugh at mistakes, grow in confidence, and explore their own creativity. Ultimately, she hopes every student will carry with them not just strong musical skills, but also a lifelong love of music.

Sophie Jones

Junior Teacher

Sophie will be 19 in 2026 and is already several years into her piano teaching journey, having begun teaching back in 2022. She has been studying piano for over a decade and passed her Grade 8 Trinity Piano Exam with distinction in 2023.

Sophie is known for her fun, enthusiastic teaching style and her natural ability to connect with children. She is responsible, driven, and committed to continual growth both as a teacher and a musician. Her lessons are especially well suited for beginning students of primary/intermediate school age, and include creative activities such as theory games, composition, and improvisation, alongside traditional skills such as technique, practice strategies, and performance preparation.

Sophie has a close mentorship under Kimberly which allows her students to benefit from two teachers’ experience rather than just one. While Sophie is building her own unique style, she also draws from Kimberly’s 12 years of teaching expertise – offering her students the best of both worlds: youthful enthusiasm and seasoned insight.

Sophie will be away studying at Capernwray Bible School for the year of 2026. We very much hope to have her back again in 2027!
